1996AUG - ReRoofing

USA ID Boise 1112North7th 1996AUG ReRoofing 001 By the beginning of August 1996 we decided to replace the roof. We got a heap of quotes to do the roof, but the cheapest bid came in around $5500-00. We got prices for the materials and decided we could do it ourselves. Little did we know what we were getting into. : 1996, 7011 West Ashland, Americas, August, Boise, Exterior, Fitzy's Poverty Palaces, Idaho, North America, Repairs, Roofing, USA  USA ID Boise 1112North7th 1996AUG ReRoofing 002 We had finished tearing off the old shingles from the back of the house. We removed 2 layers of cedar and 1 layer of asphalt shingles. If you look closely at the top of the roof, you can see a slight bow from all of the weight that had been there. : 1996, 7011 West Ashland, Americas, August, Boise, Exterior, Fitzy's Poverty Palaces, Idaho, North America, Repairs, Roof, Roofing, USA  USA ID Boise 1112North7th 1996AUG ReRoofing 003 Believe it or not, this is only one third of the shingles from the back 1/2 of the house. The worst part of the job was the clean up. We had a neighbors friend who used to be a roofer, come over and help put on the new roof. This way we were assured that we would have no leaks. : 1996, 7011 West Ashland, Americas, August, Boise, Exterior, Fitzy's Poverty Palaces, Idaho, North America, Repairs, Roof, Roofing, USA  USA ID Boise 1112North7th 1996AUG ReRoofing 004 And voila ..... the finished product. Ruth was so concerned that I would hurt myself replacing the roof. Ironically, the roofer, Steve Smylie, on his first day on the job decided that he had too much thumb and promptly, near, cut it off. : 1996, 7011 West Ashland, Americas, August, Boise, Exterior, Fitzy's Poverty Palaces, Idaho, North America, Repairs, Roof, Roofing, USA
